Joe Wright will return to Raleigh
Greenville (N.C.) Rose defensive end Joe Wright camped at NC State this summer during a one-day camp and came away impressed. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound prospect hopes he left a similar impression on the coaching staff.
"I'm getting ready to start the season I'm excited," he said. "I got an offer from State about a month ago at the one-day camp. I think it was one of my better performances.
"I think they're a good school and I'm strongly considering going there. I plan on visiting there [on an official]."
Wake Forest, where prep teammate Anthony Rook has committed, has told Wright that an offer is on the way but the Pack is his only tender at this time. In addition to camp stops at Wake and NC State, he also showed his skills at Georgia Tech and East Carolina this summer.
When asked what schools he was considering besides NC State, the big man who doubles as a starting offensive tackle on the prep level said that Wake Forest and Georgia Tech were also in the running still.
Defensive line coach Keith Willis is leading the charge for the Red and White in Wright's recruitment and he really enjoys being recruited by the man that would be his future position coach. The in-state standout thinks highly of Willis, a former NFL player, and head coach Tom O'Brien.
"They're two real good coaches and, if I go there, I'm real excited about working with them and becoming family," he said. "They're two real good men."
Although Wright, who calls himself a speed rusher, claims that he is still open and doesn't have any favorites yet, it's clear that the three ACC schools have distanced themselves from the competition. Wright expects to take a few official visits in the fall, but it might not be much longer before he pulls the trigger.
"[I'll decide] probably sometime around the first three games to midseason [of my senior year]," he said.
