After a three touchdown performance in Hilliard Darby's season opener last week, junior athlete Caleb Day was at it again on Friday night. Day caught a 53-yard touchdown pass and also had a 59-yard touchdown run called back in a 24-7 win over Dublin Jerome.
"It's a great feeling," said Day of being 2-0. "We just have to keep working hard and building toward the future and success will come to us."
Day's touchdown catch got the scoring started for Darby and he credits the film study during the week for being able to hit the deep ball.
"We were watching film and the DB's were always biting down," Day explained. "Coach just called the right play at the right time and it led us to success."
On the recruiting front, a new school is starting to show some interest in Day, who claims the same two schools are still out in front.
"Notre Dame has been asking for film," Day said. "My top two are still the same, Ohio State and Florida."
Day is definitely one of the most versatile athletes in Ohio for the 2013 class. Whether it's playing defensive back, running back, or wide receiver, Day is an impact player with the potential to make a game-changing play at any time.
Defensively, Day held his own Friday night against one of the top wide receivers in the Midwest in Dublin Jerome's Cameron Wilson and uses his speed and long arms to his advantage. Day has good recovery speed and could excel at both corner or safety at the next level.
As good of a defensive back as Day is, he may be an even better wide receiver prospect. Day is a long strider and despite being a running back for most of his playing career, proved to be a pretty solid route runner with quick hips and the ability to quickly change direction.
Day came into the season as the No. 25 ranked player in Ohio in our class of 2013 rankings and given his impressive camp performance over the summer as well as his outstanding first two games, should be due for a bump the next time things are updated.
