Sooners Get Special Special Teams Help
Oklahoma has a number of key contributors on the roster this season and one who gets overlooked due to his position will finished his career at Oklahoma at the end of this season and that is Tress Way. The senior punter from Union High School in Tulsa, Okla. will finish his career as one of the nation's most respected punted and looks to have a career in the NFL.
Special team's coordinator, Bobby Jack Wright recently identified punter prospect Jed Barnett out of Oakland (Calif.) Laney C.C. Wright made contact with Barnett and quickly got serious in his pursuit of the 6-foot-2 and 215-pound punter. Barnett has been committed to Louisiana Tech and decided to take an official visit this past weekend to see the 'instant classic' between the Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
"Towards the end of the season as things were wrapping up at my junior college I started hearing from a lot of schools," Barnett began. "Kind of near the end of those my kicking coach, Chris Sailer got in contact with me and said that Oklahoma was in need of a punter and Oklahoma got in contact with me. Well first of all on the phone I had a good talk with coach Wright, the special teams' coordinator and I had a good talk with coach (Bob) Stoops. It was a place I really wanted to come see for myself and experience the atmosphere of Norman and the atmosphere of Oklahoma.
"So, I went out this last weekend for the Bedlam game and just had really an amazing time. I saw how special a place that OU is and how much it would be awesome to be a part of it."
