BYU tonight offered twin brothers Mikah and Alijah Holder
Last month Coach Nick Howell came away impressed with the film he saw of Mikah Holder and Alijah Holder from Oceanside, CA. After some letters and letting them know he liked the film he decided to go visit both of them and get to know them face to face.
As BYU was recruiting them it seemed that to Alijah that they are mostly interested in Mikah. It would not be the first university favoring one over the other. Alijah holds an offer from Washington State and Mikah does not.
Playing together at the next level is not a requirement for the two. "We have been asked about that a lot, and it is an obvious plus if we go to play together but it is not set in stone. It's not mandatory, it's all based on our academic standards and what we want to achieve and what we want for each other," said Mikah.
Tonight Mikah and Alijah learned a little more about BYU, particularly Alijah. "I was talking to Coach Howell over the phone, and he had me call Coach Mendenhall; Coach Mendenhall said he was going to offer both of us! It was kind of surprise because I knew they were looking hard at my brother but didn't think they were looking that hard at me, so I was a little surprised when they offered me."
BYU has offered Mikah as a WR and Alijah as a DB, Coach Holiday plans on visiting the both of them in the coming months. But, he will not be the only coaching visiting them. Alijah said that both Utah and Utah State also plan on visiting soon. Other schools are showing interest but have not offered include Oregon and Oregon State.
So what are Mikah and Alijah looking for in a university? "We are looking for a great atmosphere to be around to be around and also academics are important. We want to get that knowledge base because we know that football is for forever, so we want to get the most of college," said Mikah. The Holder brothers both have a 4.0 GPA.
Coach Howell was surprised to learn that the Holder's had family attend BYU. Mikah and Alijah are cousins with Daniel, Michael and Josh Marquardt, all three played football at BYU. Though they have not heard from their cousins since the offer their mother has been talking to the Marquardt's mom asking questions and getting info.
