The Golden Eagles pose quite a challenge
The 10th seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders head East later this week to face the 7th seeded Boston College Eagles on Thursday in an 11:25am CST tip. Boston College is a big, strong team that thrives on bruising inside play. Despite listing two guards, two forwards, and a center, the Golden Eagles really play one guard, three forwards and a post.
BC is led by senior forward Jared Dudley, the reigning ACC Player of the Year. This 6-foot-7, 225-pound bruiser scores about 19 points a night and gets 9.0 rebounds in the process. Dudley lives close to the basket and he's hard to move out of the paint.
He's an excellent passing big man and is second overall on the team in assists with 3.1 per game. Dudley shoots .555 from the floor and leads the team with 108 free throw attempts, where he shoots .769. Dudley plays the whole game, averaging over 38 minutes a night. Dudley is a career 2,000-point scorer.
6-foot Sophomore guard Tyrese Rice is one of two 16-point scorers for BC and leads the team in three point attempts with 99, which accounts for nearly half - 46% - of all his shots. Rice only hits .309 from the arc, but his attempts do set up his drives to the basket.
Rice is second on the team in free throw attmepts with 97 and makes with 74. This slick passer leads the team in assist with an impressive 5.9 a night and is one of four Eagles averaging over a steal a game.
Senior forward Sean Marshall is the other 16-point scorer for BC. At 6-foot-6, he works inside and out, leading his team with 237 field goal attempts and shooting .460 overall. From the arc he hits 36.6% of the time, going 26-for-71. Marshall has started the most games in BC history.
