Pittsburgh Jam Fest: Wrap Up Report
Mike Pegram
Peegs.com It was a shorter day yesterday but still some interesting news to report. We started with our first look at 6-foot-11, 265-pound center Brett Thompson from Vienna, Illinois. Here playing the Illinois Warriors, Thompson had received some good reviews from his player earlier in the tournament but struggled in this quarterfinal game against the D-1 Greyhounds.
After showing a really nice jump hook move early in the game, Thompson would not score again. Part of the reason was his Warriors team fell behind the Greyhounds and went with a smaller, quick lineup in the second half to try to press their way back into things. Another IU hot board prospect, 6-foot-8 forward Luke Fabrizius, struggled even more than Thompson. Fabrizius is known for his terrific jumper but could not get a single perimeter shot to go down and finished with just one point.
D-1 won fairly easily, 68-58. Leading the way for them was Ohio State commit William Buford who finished with 26 points. The rich get richer as the 6-foot-5 wing from Toledo looks like he could be moving up from his #42 national ranking. D-1 also has 6-foot-6 Darius Miller, an IU hot board listee and he was solid, finishing with around 16 points. Miller was watched closely by Rick Pitino and a Tennessee assistant. Most think he'll end up choosing between Tennessee, Louisville and Kentucky.
