Nichols, Ruoff push Mountaineers past Arizona

WVSports.com WASHINGTON, D.C. - Just when things started to get interesting Thursday night in West Virginia's first-round NCAA matchup with Arizona, Darris Nichols and Alex Ruoff ended the drama. The Mountaineers (25-10) saw their nine-point lead whittled to just a single point at 60-59 with 4:43 remaining in the contest. But Nichols, playing to keep his collegiate career alive, nailed a contested three-pointer, and 45 seconds later Ruoff followed with one of his own to push the lead to 66-59. Then 45 seconds later, Nichols followed with another long-range bomb, giving the seventh-seeded Mountaineers a 69-61 advantage.
