Kiffin Wastes No Time, Visits State's Top Prospect
As he greeted the media for the first time after becoming Tennessee's 21st head football coach Lane Kiffin declared that his goal was to build a fence around Tennessee's borders in an effort to keep the best in-state talent from going anywhere but Tennessee. Putting that plan into immediate action Kiffin left the media center and hopped a plane to go see the state's best prospect receiver Marlon Brown.
"It was very important that he came to see me first," Brown said. "He told me that he could have went to an alumni dinner and stuff in Knoxville to get settled in, but that he came to see me because he wants to recruit the best in America."
Instead of hobnobbing in Knoxville, Kiffin was in the stands at Brown's high school basketball game and later in his living room trying to create a relationship with the 9th ranked receiver in the country.
