Tubbs a name to watch
While the recruiting season is in its early stages, the interest in Humble (Tex.) receiver Darius Tubbs is already heating up. Tubbs, a 6-foot-4, 205-pounder with a 4.5 time in the 40-yard dash is still waiting for his first scholarship offer but hearing from schools across the country.
Last season Tubbs caught 34 passes for 461 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 13.6 yards per catch. He calls himself a "high-flying possession receiver saying his aggressiveness and hands are his best asset. Those hands have helped him to receive letters and phone calls from the likes of Texas Tech, Alabama, UCLA, Arkansas, Colorado State, Oregon State, Arizona, Iowa State, Purdue, Baylor, Houston and Southern Methodist.
"I am looking for a style of play," Tubbs said noting that he currently plays in a spread offense. "I am looking for academics, location of the school too. I might narrow my list by the style of play and who needs receivers."
Tubbs said he has already been to Junior Days at Texas A&M as well as Baylor. Both of those schools may have an advantage with Tubbs who said he is interested in staying in Texas during college. Despite his interest in staying close to home, Colorado State is not out of the running for his services.
"I just got letters from them so far," Tubbs said of CSU. "They have caught my attention. I have a high interest in them. I haven't really seen them play yet, but I just looked up a little on their school. I wouldn't mind being in Colorado."
Tubbs has also starred on the basketball court for Houston-area Humble High School. He averages 13 points and eight rebounds per game as a forward.
"I play either small forward or four (power forward)," Tubbs said. "I am very aggressive, I just get rebounds and do what I can on the defensive end."
