Collins, Aldrich carry Kansas
Minneapolis - No. 3 seed Kansas opened up its NCAA title defense in unexpected fashion. Facing No. 14 seed North Dakota at the Metrodome, the Jayhawks found out early on they'd be facing a road type atmosphere against the Bison. As it turned out, the game between Kansas and North Dakota State was as good as advertised. Picked by a number of media to be the upset special of the region, the Jayhawks, after battling back and fourth with the Bison, pulled away late, 84-74. Sherron Collins scored a career-high 32-points and dished out eight assists, while big man Cole Aldrich chipped in 23-points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
The North Dakota State, the game couldn't have started any better. Ben Nelson and Michael Tveidt opened up the contest with back-to-back three-pointers for the Bison.
