Hunter Visits NC Athlete

Lenoir (NC) Hibriten ATH Darius Lipford has been committed to Duke since last October but has received numerous overtures from other schools. South Carolina is one school that has offered Lipford, and his area recruiter went by to check up on him on Tuesday morning.

"Yes sir, Coach (Jeep) Hunter came by my school today," the North Carolina native told GamecockCentral.com.

Though he is looking around, the defender still considers himself a Duke commitment.

"I'm still committed," he said. "I'm just trying to enjoy the process and make sure I didn't overlook any good options for me."

One of those other options is the Gamecocks, and Lipford is impressed with Carolina.

"I like their program a lot," he said. "I have been there before and the atmosphere was great."

Since his commitment, more offers have come in for the senior.

"I have five offers," he said. "Clemson and Virginia have both been down this week and have offered. I really like their programs as well."

When asked who had the best chance to change his mind at the moment, Lipford had a place in mind.

"Virginia," he said. "The program is very strong, has a nice campus, good academics and they prepare athletes for the NFL."
Lipford plans a series of visits in the near future.

"Everywhere I got an offer, I will go visit," he said. "I will visit until I'm comfortable with my final decision."

While schools have the chance to steal him from Duke, Lipford maintains it will not be easy.

"The chances are not over ten percent right now," he laughed. "Duke has really been playing their cards right and the opportunity is there for the taking. It would take a lot for me to change."
