First of two parts

MIRAMAR--When Ivan McCartney announces his decision on Feb. 3 where he will attend college, he will do so with his teammates and head coach Damon Cogdell. It's what his father Ivan Sr. wants. It's what Cogdell, a former Mountaineer and Canadian League linebacker, wants.

"Wouldn't have it any other way," said "Sticks" here Monday just before his 7-1 Miramar Patriots went out to practice.

While some young men take the opportunity to find the nearest television outlet to announce their plans or rent out a restaurant to do the deed, McCartney knows his place. He said probably all of the seniors on this year's 6A team will probably announce decisions to go somewhere.
