This week Xavier University named Rasheen Davis as the new assistant coach for the men's basketball team.

Davis's New York City roots run deep from the high school level to the collegiate level so recruiting in the metro area is second nature for him.

"I'm excited to be a part of the Xavier Family. (Head coach) Chris Mack and the men's basketball staff have done an excellent job in his (Mack's) first year. Xavier is the best of both worlds; it's academically sound and athletically sound. I'm excited and thankful to become part of the Xavier family," said Davis.

Before Davis joined Xavier, he was part of the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball staff as its Video Coordinator for the 2008-2010 seasons, under head coach Jamie Dixon. At the University of Louisville he worked as a program assistant for the men's basketball team 2007-2008 under head coach Rick Pitino.

In NYC, Davis worked under legendary Rice HS coach Maurice "Moe" Hicks as an assistant boy's basketball coach for the 2005-2007 seasons coaching, Edgar Sosa, Curtis Kelly, Kashiff Pratt and Lamont "Momo" Jones. Hicks is currently the Director of Basketball for St. John's University.

Uptown in the Bronx, Davis also served as an assistant coach for Dwayne Mitchell for New York Gauchos with the 17U boy's team, where he help with player development coaching current Xavier player Terrell Holloway as well as Kemba Walker, Darryl "Truck" Bryant, Durand Scott, Jordan Theodore, and Chris Fouch to name a few.

In the 2002-05 seasons Davis worked as an assistant coach at his alma mater St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, N.Y. where he played for the men's basketball team.
