November 16, 2011Looking at the 2A playoff brackets, there is some major quality. There are some major prospects that will be attending some big-time universities upon graduation. Just to give you some names, we have the super-athletic quarterback, Bilal Marshall from Dade Christian high school, the very talented, class-of-2013 running back, Kelvin Taylor from Glades Day high school, Kedric Bostic, the future UCF quarterback, and the standout defensive back Travis Blanks, the Clemson commitment.
The schools that make up the 2A playoff bracket includes University Christian, North Florida Christian, FAMU, Eagles View Academy, Lake Mary Prep, Warner Christian, St. John Lutheran, Victory Christian, St. John Neumann, Canterbury, Admiral Farragut Academy, Evangelical Christian, Champagnat Catholic, Glades Day, Jupiter Christian, and Dade Christian. Let's take a look at some players to watch from these matchups.
Isaac McDonald - Safety - Champagnat Catholic
I am not sure that words can describe McDonald's athleticism. He will be one of the most highly recruited athletes in Florida for the class-of-2013. He is 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds and will only continue to grow over the next year. I believe he ends up playing defensive end at the next level, but it's truly not far-fetched to see him play safety at the next level.
Ryan Janvion - Athlete - Dade Christian
Janvion, who is currently committed to Wake Forest, is a solid, consistent football player. He is very sound technically and is a good enough athlete to play both safety and slot receiver at the next level. Based on his lateral quickness, athleticism to cover a lot of space, and ability to read the quarterback, I believe his future lies in the secondary as a Demon Deacon.
Dwayne Norman - Safety - University Christian School
There are a lot of schools that are after Norman, but the long time commitment to Duke University will not be swayed. He is a smart and talented student-athlete and will do very good things in the ACC. Norman isn't your typical safety, as he doesn't just roam the secondary. He loves getting his nose in on tackles and is aggressive in run support. As a junior he had over 70 tackles.
Matt Dobson - Quarterback - North Florida Christian
Dobson, the 6-foot-1, 205 pound quarterback, is a very talented pass of the football, but his best attributes may be his knowledge of the game and his ability to extend the play with his legs. He puts a very nice spin on the football and throws with accuracy. When necessary, he shows off his athleticism and picks up a great deal of yards with his legs. He may end up at Georgia Tech and do some terrific things in the triple-option offense.
Taylor Oldham - Wide Receiver - Warner Christian Academy
Oldham was the first commitment in the class-of-2012 for the University of Central Florida and he has stayed strong since his commitment in June of 2011. Oldham has a very impressive leaping ability and really does a good job of attacking the ball at its highest point. He also has the wiggle and shiftiness of a smaller receiver even though he is 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds. Oldham is a very polished receiver that could play early for UCF.
Brent O'Neal - Running Back - Canterbury School of Florida
O'Neal is a strong, thick back with good size and very good speed. He is listed at 5-foot-11 and 205 pounds, but he may have some additional good weight on him. He currently lists The Citadel has his leader and if they can gain a commitment from this back, they will be pleased for years to come. O'Neal is a hard runner and plays with a great deal of passion. I think he could be a playmaker at any school, but he could have astronomical numbers at The Citadel.
Rayshawn Jenkins - Wide Receiver - Admiral Farragut Academy
Jenkins is a very talented athlete that recently switched his commitment from South Florida to the University of Miami. Many people outside the Canes program scoffed at the new addition, but don't realize the quality athlete that Jenkins really is. He has the chance to be a solid receiver for Miami, but I think he could be a major safety at the next level. He has great size, very good speed, and can cover a lot of ground in the secondary. Keep an eye on this kid at the next level - he could be a special player.
Cole Wright - Tight End - Evangelical Christian
Wright is a very underrated tight end prospect. He is a very solid athlete and shows very good hands. He is continuing to learn the position but has a bright future on offense. He has plenty of strength, has shown by his efforts at defensive end and will be an asset in any blocking schemes in college. He currently has an offer from Bryant University, but I could see other schools throwing their hats in the ring shortly.
