NORTH CAROLINA: RB Giovani Bernard's 74-yard punt return with 13 seconds remaining lifted North Carolina past the rival Wolfpack at Kenan Stadium. Bernard's return capped a wild afternoon that saw the Tar Heels build a 25-7 ﬁrst-quarter lead, only to see NC State score 28 unanswered points to take a 35-25 lead into the fourth quarter. UNC then outscored the Wolfpack 18-0 in the ﬁnal 15 minutes to claim its ﬁrst win in the series in 2006. The punt return capped a huge day for Bernard, who ran for 135 yards and two touchdowns. He also had eight receptions for 95 yards. Final score: North Carolina 43, N.C. State 35

GT: Georgia Tech is averaging 318.22 yards per game this year in rushing offense, which ranks 4th nationally. Since the beginning of the 2008 season, when head coach Paul Johnson brought his spread option attack to the Flats, Tech has rushed for more yards than any other team in the FBS. During that time, Tech has averaged 304.34 rushing yards per game with 18,869 yards in 62 games.
GT: Sophomore return specialist Jamal Golden is third in the ACC and 18th nationally in kick return average (27.8 avg). He totaled 174 KO return yards versus BYU, including a 97-yarder for a touchdown -- Tech's ﬁrst KO return for a TD since Oct. 31, 1998, at Maryland.
GT: Senior AB Orwin Smith has racked up 992 all-purpose yards this season and his 110.2 average is ninth in the ACC. Smith's career average of 9.7 yards per carry is the highest by any active FBS player with 100+ career carries.
GT: Tech's defense has recorded at least one interception in eight consecutive games. Eight players share the team's 10 picks, led by Jemea Thomas' three.
UNC: Sophomore TB Giovani Bernard leads the nation in punt return average (20.75), is 3rd nationally in all-purpose yardage (214.0) and scoring (12.86) and 5th in rushing (132.9). In his last four games, Bernard has run for 717 yards, an average of 179.3 yards per game, while averaging 7.4 yards per carry.
UNC: The number of ACC placekickers named as semiﬁnalists for the Lou Groza Award, which is given annually to the nation's best placekicker. Named to the semiﬁnal list of 20 are Florida State's Dustin Hopkins,Clemson's Chandler Catanzaro, Duke's Ross Martin and North Carolina's Casey Barth. Hopkins is a semiﬁnalist for the 3rd time and was also a ﬁnalist last year.
UNC: • The Tar Heels are 5-0 at home with wins over Elon, East Carolina, Idaho, Virginia Tech and NC State. The Tar Heels have home games remaining with Georgia Tech (Nov. 10) and Maryland (Nov. 24). North Carolina has gone undefeated and untied at home just seven times since 1927 (86 years).
UNC: Carolina is averaging more than 250 yards passing (280.8) and 200 yards rushing (207.0). UNC is one of only nine FBS schools and one of just two ACC schools (FSU is the other) averaging at least 250 passing and 200 rushing.
UNC: WR Erik Highsmith ranks fifth all-time at UNC with 154 receptions. He needs two catches to pass Corey Holliday (155) and into fourth place.
