UNC had to wait longer than any of their conference
contemporaries but they now know who they will take on in their
opening game of the 2013 ACC Tournament.
The Tar Heels will play the Florida State Seminoles and as
the third seed, won't play them until 9:30 p.m. Friday night.?
The time slot means UNC will have to wait for every team in the
conference to get at least one tournament game completed before
they can touch the hardwood for the first time in Greensboro.
Nevertheless, UNC draws a team from whom it already has two
victories over this season.
In the past, North Carolina has struggled against Florida State,
none more evident than in both performances against Florida State
last year.? But this year has been different for UNC.?
After beating Florida State 77-72 in Tallahassee in January, UNC
won the second game at home by an even wider, 79-58 margin, in
Chapel Hill in February.
Florida State has seen both versions of UNC's starting line-up:
The more traditional two big-man approach and the more recent,
super-small four guard line-up with only one big.
Both approaches worked for UNC and
Roy Williams' squad will look to make it three-for-three Friday

James Michael McAdoo
It was revealed before the Duke game that
James Michael McAdoo was suffering through a bulging disk in his
McAdoo has already been shouldering the burden of being UNC's
lone consistent inside presence and has been taking on that
responsibility while injured.
Despite the pain McAdoo has led UNC in both scoring and
rebounding all year (14.6 PPG, 7.6 RPG).? It will have been six
full days since UNC's last game action, giving McAdoo a much needed
breather and time to relax his back.
McAdoo has been struggling with the back pain for a few weeks but
aggravated the injury during UNC's recent road win over Maryland.?
The time period for the injury means that despite its hampering
effects, McAdoo still put on a nice performance (21 points, four
rebounds) in UNC's win over Florida State two weekends ago.
If McAdoo has regained any of his healthier self through the
added rest, he should pose problems for Florida State in the paint
Okaro White had himself a ball game Thursday night against
White racked up 24 points on 8-11 shooting and 7-7 shooting from
the free throw line.? White played 39 minutes and even threw in
a three-pointer for good measure.
Florida State will get nearly 24 hours in-between tip-offs by the
time they play UNC but still, White's stamina will be something to
keep an eye on.
Either he will have tremendous momentum heading into the UNC game
or his legs could be shot.
Whichever way it goes, Florida State should look to feature him
against a weakened McAdoo or a smaller defender at the power forward
Marcus Paige told the media this week when asked that he wasn't
as aware of the ACC tournament as some of his teammates probably
were growing up.
That's because Paige comes from Iowa, the heart of Big Ten
More than likely, Paige won't get consumed by the moment playing
in his first ACC tournament game.? That shouldn't come as a
Paige has had freshman moments this season but rarely worn a
freshman demeanor.? His persistently optimistic attitude and
confidence has forced Coach Williams to call his young point guard
"a tough little nut" on more than one occasion this year.
Paige's even-keeled approach is exactly the kind of performance
Williams needed from a point guard leading a young, developing team
and that's exactly what he's gotten, at least between the ear-holes.?
Paige has had moments where he's looked over-matched, for instance
Lorenzo Brown in the first N.C. State game, but has also come up
big, like the second N.C. State game.
Paige will have a big say in how far UNC advances in the ACC
