ICC football adds four to recruiting class
Itawamba Community College head football coach Jeff Terrill announced his program has added four more signees to its 2009 recruiting class. The Indians, who are in their fourth week of spring drills, added a quarterback, an athlete that will be used on both sides of the ball, a wide receiver and a long snapper.
The quarterback headed to ICC is Tromarcus Toney, a 6'1, 190 pound standout from Melrose High School in Memphis.
"(ICC offensive coordinator) Jeff Carter was extremely excited to get Tromarcus on board with us," said Terrill, whose 2008 squad finished in third place in the north after showcasing the only program in the state to have qualified for the state playoffs the previous four seasons. "But I will tell you this, one of our returning quarterbacks from last year, Michael Ledbetter (of Shannon) has looked good this spring."
Terrill and his staff addressed "the need for more team speed" with another signee this week, Darius Slay, who is a 6'1, 185 pound athlete from Brunswick, GA.
"Darius possesses 4.47 speed and we'll use that on both sides of the ball," added Terrill, who is a Noxubee County native.
The wide receiver signed was Ty Ferrell, a 6'1, 180 pound standout from Monticello High School in Monticello, Ark.
"Ty is a very versitile athlete that also played quarterback in high school," said Terrill, whose program has finished the season ranked among the nation's top 20 in three of the previous four campaigns.
The long snapper signed was Mason Welch, a 6'1, 195 pound player from inside the ICC five-county district, Hamilton High School.
