Guys,

Our mod group (Wit, Willbill, Mike and myself) has discussed some issues about the board in recent days, and we've decided to reemphasize some long-standing guidelines and reinstitute some new ones. Luckily for me, I was elected to write these out for you guys. We hope you guys will be receptive to this and will work with us. So...here goes:

1 - No name-calling or personal attacks on another poster. No more warnings, guys. If you attack another poster or resort to name-calling, you will be given a vacation. The level of "vacation" will remain the same: 1st offense = 1 day, 2nd offense = 1 week, 3rd offense = 1 year.

2 - We're also going to crack down on the generalized attacks that a lot of posters are using. Tazki brought this up last week, and we believe that he has a point. Comments such as "Bush supporters are morons," or "liberals are idiotic," are clearly meant to insult those who identify themselves with that group, and are just as much of an "attack" on those posters as a direct insult is.

3 - Please be mindful of other people's religious beliefs when posting. We have a lot of heavy-duty religious debates and that's fine, but think twice before posting jokes and blasphemous exclamations that will offend 75% of the board. In other words, just have some couthe.

4 - Do not copy and paste full articles from other websites, magazines, etc, into your posts. If you are curious as to why this is so important, take a moment to do a Google search on copyright laws. If you want to post an article, then feel free to post excerpts and to insert a link to the article. If no link is available, then feel free to post excerpts, so long as you provide the source. But NO FULL ARTICLES.

5 - If you have a problem or concern with board content, guidelines, enforcement of those guidelines, or behavior of other posters or moderators, then PLEASE take this up with one of us in an email. We are no longer going to allow this stuff to be debated on the board.

We want to be clear about this one, guys. This isn't about suppressing dissent or an ego trip for us. We're going to try to be as consistent as possible in enforcing the rules, but, inevitably, some of you are going to disagree with what we do or what CB does. That's fine, BUT...Carolina Blue is a business. In reality, it's no different than any other business in your community. It has the right to set guidelines to protect business.

Think about it this way: Let's say your local Burger King stops serving pickles on cheeseburgers. If this upsets you, are you going to A) ask to speak to the manager and voice your concerns with him, or B) stand on a chair in the middle of the restaurant and shout out your displeasure to everyone in the building?? Most reasonable people would choose Option A, and, in most cases, anyone who chose Option B would be asked to leave. This really isn't any different. Calling out moderators or complaining about rules on the board is akin to standing on the chair in the middle of the Burger King. People who do this repeatedly will be asked to leave...just as you would in real life.

We all welcome emails, so please don't hesitate to contact us if you have feedback or concerns. Here are our emails:
