Los Angeles NIKE Camp Preview

This Sunday, the NIKE Camp tour returns to Los Angeles and the campus of USC. While the Trojans Rising Stars Camp won't take place for another two months, plenty of stars will have their first opportunity to shine as The Swoosh pulls in talent from across the state.

In a twist of abnormality, defensive tackle will be the featured position at this year's camp. Led by USC commit, Antwaun Woods, the defensive line position hosts several prospects garnering interest from the Trojans.

Scholarship offers from USC have been few and far between locally, but with the May Evaluation Period at the horizon, defensive line is where the first moves could be made. Point Loma (Cailf.) defensive tackle Christian Heyward and Lakewood (Calif.) defensive end Todd Barr are at the top of the list.

Heyward and Barr both have multiple scholarship offers from PAC-10 schools, but each bring something different to the table Sunday. At 6-foot-2, 270-pounds, Heyward has the frame and lateral quickness to control the middle of an offense. At 6-foot-2, 255-pounds, Barr catapults off the line from both the five and three techniques.

Sunday, Barr will have display his ability to fight off blocks one-on-one, while Heyward will have to prove he is quick enough off the snap to be a consistent pass rusher with varying moves up-field.
