Another QB with offer?
Faton Bauta, the former Brooklyn (N.Y.) Poly Prep star, did not know how the move to West Palm Beach, Florida would affect his recruitment. But so far things have been much better than expected for the standout quarterback.
"Everything is going pretty well. I thought it was going to hurt my recruiting moving down here. I thought the transition would make it rough," said Bauta. "But everything has gone great and I am just excited for May to roll around so I can start playing spring ball."
The heralded athlete enrolled at Dwyer High School and is currently slated to start at quarterback. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound athlete could play many positions but says his focus is quarterback.
"I am going to play quarterback that is my main position," said Bauta. "That is what schools are recruiting me for, and that is where I see myself playing at the next level."
Bauta is receiving interest from a number of schools and expects to add to his 10+ scholarships, but what does he think about Boston College?
"I have not visited there, but I have been in contact with the coaches. I get hand written letters from them and call them once in a while to see how things are going. I have to figure out when I can go up and visit there," said Bauta. "I like the coaching staff. They are a great group of guys. Coach Day and Coach Brock seem like stand up and respectable guys and great coaches. It is a great academics school and they do a good job of putting people guys in the NFL, which is something I am very interested in pursuing."
How does Boston College stack up to some of the top SEC, ACC and Big Ten programs recruiting him?
"I think BC matches up with all of those programs," said Bauta. "They have a tradition of consistently winning. I think they have the ability to go to a BCS championship game every year."
Bauta says he has no favorites to this point, and is still looking to see what offers will come in. What is the dual-threat quarterback looking for in a football program?
"Great coaches that are there to stay and great people are important to me. I want to play for a national contender," said Bauta. "I have been on winning teams my whole life so I really want to go to a winning team. I also would like a school with great academics and surrounding community."
Bauta was more of a running quarterback while at Poly Prep, he amassed 1000+ yards rushing and 21 rushing touchdowns while throwing for 800+ yards and 10 touchdown passes. Although he excels at running with the ball, Bauta believes he can fit in at any system and is looking forward to throwing the ball more this year.
