Thompson starting to blow up

Word is starting to get out on outstanding junior safety Jayme Thompson. The 6-foot-2, 184-pound prospect from Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic was outstanding throughout the summer camp circuit and has carried that momentum over to his junior season. This past week, Thompson picked up his first verbal offer from a BCS program when West Virginia came through. The offer certainly won't be his last from a BCS conference program.
"I was extremely excited," said Thompson of the WVU offer. "That's one of my top schools so I was really excited to get that offer."
Thompson holds three offers from Bowling Green, Buffalo, and West Virginia, and could be seeing a few others join the mix in the very near future.
"Tennessee and Michigan (are also showing interest)," he explained. "I should be getting (an offer) from Michigan soon."
Thompson will be at Michigan on November 19th when the Wolverines host Nebraska.
"I was up there for the Purdue game and I went up there for homecoming but I didn't get to meet with the coaches because I had practice," he said. "I feel like if you go to Michigan, you're one step away from the (NFL). Coach Greg Mattison, he coached in The League so I know he has ties there so I feel like if you go there they will get you really prepared."
One school that hasn't showed a lot of interest just yet is Ohio State. Thompson said he would like to hear more from the Buckeyes and that if he did, they would be among his top schools.
"If (Ohio State) came in, of course they would be a top school on my list since I'm from Ohio," he said.
Thompson camped at Ohio State back in June and while he was certainly impressive at that time, he has made tremendous strides over the last several months.
"I've improved a lot on my technique but it has came with a lot of work," he said. "Basically the coaches here really help me out a lot. I've got a lot of good advice and guidance here from the coaches."
As for his high school team, Central Catholic got a big win over Olmsted Falls in the first round of the playoffs on Friday night. Thompson credited his coaching staff for the convincing victory.
"This is a big win," Thompson said. "We knew that we had a great game plan all week. Our coaches had us prepared and we knew what they were going to do and we kept it simple and just had to execute."
Thompson is currently the No. 23 ranked player in the BuckeyeGrove.com class of 2013 Ohio rankings.
