Best of 2014: Racean Thomas

TideSports.com traveled across the state of Alabama to locate the top prospects in the class of 2014 and find out what makes them so special. It wasn't hard to find a star in the making last year at Oxford High School. Running back Racean Thomas broke out as a sophomore, and he makes our list, as the sky is the limit for him.

Name: Racean Thomas
Position: Running back
High School: Oxford
Height: 5-foot-11 | Weight: 195 pounds

Considering: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Louisville, UCLA

Why he's a top prospect: Thomas possesses that rare combination of power and speed that is hard to find with any running back, more or less a sophomore in high school. Oxford head coach John Grass has already compared his star player to former Alabama greats Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson because of the balance he runs with. As a sophomore, Thomas emerged on the scene in Alabama's Class 6A, and he also became a leader for his team after the injury to senior linebacker Kwon Alexander. I expect his recruitment to take off this spring and over the summer where he can show off his talent at various camps.

What he said: "I think what makes me special is that I'm not always doing the same thing because sometimes, you have to change things up, change it up for each different team. Each team has a different style of play, so you have to adjust to that."

"It was a big year for me because it was kind of like Kwon (Alexander) and Trae (Elston) their sophomore year. They had a breakout year (their) sophomore year."

"I talked to the running backs coach at Alabama, who watched some of my highlights, and he just tells me how much I remind him of those two backs, Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson. That makes me feel like I'm doing a good job and standing out like I'm supposed to."

Coach's take: "He's the best running back I've ever coached, and he's still a sophomore. He's got a chance to be really good. It's hard to make a comparison. The people around here, this part of the country and this part of the state, remember Cadillac (Williams). That's who I've heard a lot of people say he reminds them of."
