Boilers looking at JUCO DT

Junior college defensive tackle Edwin Delva hasn't spoken to the Boilermakers much yet, but it's been enough to learn of Purdue's interest.

The Boilers have extended an offer, Delva's fourth, joining Kansas State, Oregon State and Pittsburgh.

"I only spoke on the phone with them for like two minutes, then I had to go to practice," Delva said of the Boilers. "… I've got to give them a call again."

But Delva's not in a rush with his recruitment. The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder is in the middle of spring practices with Antelope Valley Community College in Lancaster, California, so time to focus on recruiting right now is short. But he's happy to have picked up a couple offers in a small window; Pitt's offer came only a couple weeks ago, just before Purdue's.

He's been happy with the developments.

"How could I not be?" he said. "… I'm just focusing on school right now."

As a freshman, Delva had 29 tackles, nine for loss and three sacks. He's looking for a bigger sophomore year, and could be on pace to graduate in December, making him an early enrollee possibility.

Delva, a Miami native, says he wants to take visits before he decides on anything.

"I probably won't take them in the summer, but will in the fall, after the season," he said. "… (I'm looking for) a good school, with a good learning environment, and a good football program."

Delva says he's intrigued by the Boilermakers.

"It's Big Ten football," he said. "But I don't know much about the Boilers yet."
