QB, Ty Griffin says Army has the slight edge
If there was a Top Five of "must get" prospects for the 2013 Army recruiting class, it is pretty apparent that quarterback Ty Griffin would have to be listed as part of El Cinco. If anything, Army fans might want to rewrite their Christmas Wish List and make sure that Griffin's name is carefully transcribed.
Unlike many of the recruits that were able to make it to Saturday's Army-Navy game in Philadelphia (Pa.), Griffin had other commitments, but was able to take in part of the contest in the comfort of his home. "Yes sir, I watch some of it," confirms the 6-foot-0, 180 pound quarterback who added his first half observation of the game before following through to his previously scheduled obligations. "It looked pretty physical, but I did not get to watch the whole game because I had the ACT. Then I had to go do some work with my dad, so I didn't watch the whole thing."
"We recorded the game, but I just haven't had a chance to watch it," he adds.
When asked if he could see himself playing in the game (Army vs. Navy) itself, Griffin offered up this response. "Oh yeah ... absolutely," he declared.
Last week, the dual threat quarterback out of Kennesaw (Ga) McEachem High School made it clear that his top two programs are Army and Navy. But on Saturday, Griffin shared that one of the two now has an edge, albeit slight and part of that has to do with player personnel.
With Army quarterback Trent Steelman having taken his last snap under center for the Black Knights and Navy frosh signal caller, Keenan Reynolds just kicking off his football career as the Midshipmen's ace in the hole, Griffin was quick to point out that dichotomy could have an impact on his college decision.
"I did see him (Reynolds) play and he's pretty good and he's only a freshman," shared Griffin. "So I take that in consideration as far as playing time that I could get when I get to a school. I really like Army and Coach Holmes (Clearance) is a good guy."
