Pete Carroll calls on 5-star TN junior

One of the most highly touted prospects in the 2009 class was a relative unknown before his junior season, at least on the football field. Marlon Brown has gone from football obscurity to a five-star wide receiver in the first edition of the Rivals100 for 2009. Now everyone is learning his name including some big name coaches themselves.

"I got another offer from the University of Colorado," Brown said. "All these offers are real exciting. At the school today we got a call from the head coach at Southern California. It was exciting. I like him a lot. He's real cool and laid back."

Is a call from a coach of Pete Carroll's caliber something Brown would have expected a year ago?

"No, not at all," he said. "I'm kind of still getting used to it."

The five-star wideout is now fully into his original sport of choice, basketball. He may be dominant on the football field but he's no slouch on the hardwood either.

"Basketball's going good," he said. "I'm averaging 16 or 17 points a game. It was real tough getting back into basketball shape. It took like three or four weeks. I'm in shape now though."

Brown has always maintained that he'd like to play both basketball and football in college and says that his plans still haven't changed on that end. However, his Spring will be packed full with both.

"I'll probably be doing both this Spring, playing basketball and training for football," he said. "At the moment I don't have any plans for camps but I'm planning on going."
