Hot corner camps at Georgia

One of the hottest Peach State names in recruiting is defensive back Roderick Sweeting. Sweeting was an unknown just a little over a month ago, but he is now closing in on 20 scholarship offers. He quietly snuck over to Athens last week and participated in Georgia's camp.

"I went over to Georgia last Thursday and I competed in their camp," Sweeting said. "I was working at corner because that is what Georgia is recruiting me to play."

"I think I had a good day; I intercepted a pass, I knocked down a few passes, and I covered the receivers real well all day. I think some good receivers were there, but they could not ever beat me deep. I shut them down pretty good."

Sweeting thinks he performed well in front of Georgia's Defensive Coordinator/Secondary Coach Willie Martinez.

"I was with Coach Martinez all day and he told me he wants me at corner. He told he me he really liked my size and my skills. He said he does not have many big corners, so he really likes me a lot."

The 6-foot-0, 170-pound corner entered the camp looking to earn an offer, so did he get it before leaving Athens?

"They told me they like me a lot and that I am high on their list, but they did not offer me yet," Sweeting explained. "I talked to Coach Martinez and Coach Mark Richt and they said about the same thing."

"They both said they liked me a lot, they said that I looked good on tape and at camp, and that they are very interested in me, but that they want me to take the ACT before they offer me."

The Dawgs already have 11 commitments for 2009, so they let him know about their numbers being tight as well.

"I think they will offer me, but they talked to me about their offers being very limited right now. I understand that, so I am not upset about the offer, but I think I have a good chance to get an offer from them."

This was his first visit to Athens and he really liked what he saw.

"Everything was very nice at Georgia and I loved everything there," he admitted. "I liked the football complex, the practice fields, the stadium, the facilities, and the coaches were all cool too. I am definitely interested in Georgia and I am just hoping for the best after I take the ACT on Saturday."

He may be hoping for the best now, but he has an impressive offer list with or without Georgia on it. Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech amongst others have offered the Locust Grove (GA) Luella native.

"I have around 15 or 16 offers now I think. Akron, West Virginia, and Alabama-Birmingham have offered me recently. I think I may get few more soon."

At this time, he is open to everyone. The offers have come arrived in a flurry, so Sweeting is just taking things slowly.

Miami is a school that many that knew Sweeting when he was young would be leaning towards, but that is not the case. Why Miami, you may ask; he moved to Locust Grove from South Florida in the summer of 2006.
