Cowboys Add Defensive Back

Wyoming added another defensive back to their 2009 signing class when Denver area Turmour Battle signed with the Cowboys.

Battle is a 5 foot 9 and 165 pound athlete who looks to be a speedy, quick prospect who received multiple interest but finally settled on a school.

Nebraska, Minnesota, Arizona State, Kansas State, Cal, Washington State, Boise State UNLV, and Wyoming were among the colleges expressing interest in Battle.

The size of Battle may have kept him from receiving final scholarship offers though his ability to play above his physical stature makes his intriquing player.

"Well, I play bigger than my size and I have good speed," Battle told ColoradoPrepReport.com. "When I match up against a receiver that is taller than 6-feet tall, I know I have to play him strong otherwise it is going to be a mismatch and I can't let that happen."

Battle led South High School to a 7-3 mark with over 800 yards rushing and 600 in the receiving category. His strengths are his speed at a 4.48 40-yard dash and big play making ability both offensively and defensively.

"I really like man-to-man defense. I like the zone, but I enjoy man-to-man because of the contact you get to initiate with a receiver, rather than playing eight to 10 yards back in a zone." he said.

Battle will move to Laramie this summer and enroll for the 2009 season. He played both running back and cornerback in high school, while being ranked as the 19th best player in the state of Colorado.

UW signed three of the top twenty prospects in Colorado. LB Todd Knight was rated #14, D-Linemen Mike Purcell #17 and Battle at number 19.
