Final Rivals150: Napier a four-star
The process of officially re-classifying from junior to senior is still ongoing for Shabazz Napier.
As far as the rankings are concerned, Napier is still one of the best in the country.
The 6-foot-1, 160-pound point guard from Groton (Mass.) Lawrence Academy was given a four-star ranking in the final Rivals150, which was released Thursday afternoon. Expected to enter UConn next year, Napier was ranked the No. 98 prospect in the nation.
A postgraduate student, Napier repeated his sophomore year when he enrolled at Lawrence Academy. He was considered one of the best point guards in the Class of 2011 should he have decided to stay on course.
Napier is the third player in UConn's five-member Class of 2010 to earn a spot in the top 100 player rankings. Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill forward Roscoe Smith is ranked No. 37, while Norcross (Ga.) guard Jeremy Lamb is No. 76. Both are four-star prospects.
Baltimore (Md.) Lake Clifton guard Josh Selby, who committed to Kansas two weeks ago over UConn, took over the top spot in the Class of 2010 rankings. The Huskies were also in the picture for two other top-10 players until the final week: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Pine Crest and Kentucky-bound point guard Brandon Knight, formerly the nation's No. 1 player and now No. 6, and Texas-bound forward Cory Joseph, from Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep.
UConn also will welcome Storrs (Conn.) E.O. Smith forward Tyler Olander and Chattanooga (Tenn.) Tyner Academy forward Michael Bradley for the 2010-11 season.
