2011 DB hoping to earn offer from Texas
Charles Jackson, Tevin Mitchel, Cortland Browning, and David Jenkins are just a few of the DBs who have seen their stock rise over the last few months.Defensive backs have been popping up across the Lone Star State throughout the spring at a dizzying rate.
Coppell, Texas defensive back Bennett Okotcha has also seen recruiting profile pick up steam with offers coming in from North Texas, Minnesota, Wake Forest, Baylor, and Wisconsin.
This summer Okotcha plans to visit the schools that have offered and attend a few camps with hopes of opening a few more eyes.
"They're not all set for sure, but I know there's three of them I'm going to 100-percent and that's TCU, OU, and Texas," Okotcha said of his camp schedule.
The 5-10, 175-pound defender runs a 4.47 forty and has the versatility to play both cornerback and safety, making him an intriguing prospect for college coaches.
"Most schools say they're looking at me as a versatile DB, they'll try to figure it out when I get there," he said." I guess I'll just choose which one I want to play at the camp."
Okotcha is taking his time when it comes to colleges and the recruiting process, and is not ready to declare a leader.
"I don't have any favorites but I grew up watching football my whole life, so I know about all the D1 schools. They're all great schools. So I guess I don't have any favorites," he said. "I guess Texas and OU because I've lived in Texas my whole life. Like any other kid I guess."
When it comes to Texas, he has not heard a whole lot but the Longhorns did visit Coppell and let Okotcha know they would like to see more.
"They told me they were interested in me, and I was going to get a chance to showcase my talent at their camp," Okotcha said.
Regardless of what happens over the summer Okotcha plans to take his time and listen to the advice of Coppell head coach Joe McBride. However, he does know what he is looking for in a future program
"It has to be a good school, a good family environment, and a team atmosphere," he said.
