McAdoo chooses to remain a prep

North Carolina commitment James McAdoo has made the decision to stay in high school for his senior year according to a report on Tuesday afternoon.

"I'm going to go back to high school," McAdoo said to Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog.com. "Basically I was telling myself that I wanted to go to Carolina and wouldn't really mind missing my senior year and the McDonald's Game. But once I thought about it, it's something that I really wanted to do."

McAdoo, a 6-8, 205-pounder, is currently the top-ranked power forward nationally in the Class of 2011, and the No. 3 overall player in the entire class.

He'll almost certainly draw an invitation to the 2011 McDonalds All-American Game and should be a strong competitor for National High School Player of the Year, won this past year by incoming North Carolina freshman Harrison Barnes.

McAdoo averaged better than 22 points and nine rebounds per game as a junior at Norfolk (Va.) Christian, helping lead his team to the Virginia Independent Schools Division III state title. Along with way he was named 'Mr. Basketball' in the state of Virginia.

McAdoo is currently in Texas training with the Team USA U-17 squad in preparation for its series of games in the World Championships in Hamburg, Germany in early July.

Last summer McAdoo helped lead the Team USA U-16 squad to the Gold Medal at the World Championships---averaging better than 16 points and eight rebounds along the way.

Although Tar Heel fans won't be able to call McAdoo one of theirs just yet, another year of high school competition---along with the opportunity to represent the United States---should only serve to help McAdoo in preparation for his arrival in Chapel Hill in the summer of 2011.
