Rivals High - # 8 West Monroe at Ouachita

Monroe, La's Ouachita Parish High School played host to North Louisiana's biggest 5A game of the 2010 season, as undefeated West Monroe took on the Ouachita Lions. History was on the Rebel's side, as they had rattled off 15 straight wins over the Lions, and West Monroe had not lost since a first round play off loss in 2008, 20 straight games.

West Monroe received to start the game, but would turn the ball over on the second play from scrimmage, as Chad Ellis would recover for the Lions. The Ouachita offense would stall on the ensuing possession, punting to the Rebel 18 yard line.

3-Star LSU commitment Paul Turner would go to work for West Monroe as he led an eight play drive to the Lion 27 yard line. The drive would stall, but Dan Mabry would connect on a 37 yard field goal, putting the visiting Rebels up 3-0. West Monroe would never trail as they rolled on to a 6-0 record, 2-0 in district play with a 45-13 win.

"I thought the first half, we were just about perfect," West Monroe Head Coach said. "I think defensively we played the best we have all year."

Turner was the offensive difference for the Rebels in the game, as he help build a 31-0 half time lead. Turner connected receiver Cody Stone enroute to a 30-yard scramble in the first half. When not passing to Stone, Turner was connecting with running back Tyler Cain, who also got into the end zone in the first half with a two yard dive.

Ouachita came out swinging in the second half though, as quarterback Quentin Wheeler connected with Tiajuan Thomas for a 59 yard pass play to open the second half. Wheeler would then hit 3-star receiver Justin Ginyard for a 20 yard TD reception, the PAT was no good. Ginyard was the leading receiver for the Lions, as he hauled in five passes for 54 yards.

Tempers would briefly flare late in the game, but Cain continued to pound out yards on the ground. He would collect his second score of the game on an eight yard scamper to push the West Monroe lead to 38-6. Cain ended the night with three receptions for 45 yards, and ran for 48 yards, scoring both ways.

Wheeler would answer again on the next possession, as he again connected with Thomas for a 33 yard score. Wheeler would end the night with 179 yards on 12-29 passing with a pair of interceptions.
