Georgia DB on the rise visits AU

Cairo (Ga.) defensive back T.J. Gurley has seen his recruitment pick up over the last few weeks.

Gurley garnered offers from Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Georgia Tech on Friday night.

On Saturday, Gurley visited Auburn and spent time with Auburn defensive backs coach Tommy Thigpen, to learn more about the Tigers' program.

"The trip went good, it's like home, only two hours away," Gurley said. "It's a small town, I love it, it's really nice.

"We toured the campus, went to the football fields, weight room, talked with the coaches. We talked about film, zone coverages, studying film, all that stuff."

Gurley is up to five offers, and feels as if his recruitment is about to really pick up with increased interest from big time powerhouses.

Gurley mentioned Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, and Florida as schools that have really picked up their interest in him, and he is in the process of visiting them all.

"Auburn thinks I can be an NFL caliber player and I'm smart," said Gurley. "They said they want me."

Gurley said Auburn is recruiting him as a corner or a safety, and his physicality is what the Tigers are most drawn to.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound prospect said he has no favorites but Mississippi State stands right now due to their level of interest in him. Gurley said he has already visited Mississippi State, and has a good feel for their program and coaching staff.

As far as a decision, Gurley said he is in no rush, and will let his recruitment play out further into the season.

"I'll probably stretch it out and wait," said Gurley.

Gurley plans to visit Florida and Florida State in the next few weeks. Gurley also said he has plans to be back in Auburn this summer, for one or two Auburn camps.
