Diamond Heels set to host Hokies

No. 6 North Carolina closes out the 2012 regular season Thursday when ACC Coastal division foe Virginia Tech comes to Boshamer Stadium for a three-game series set for Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m. with Senior Day set for 2 p.m. Saturday.

Seniors Jacob Stallings and Jimmy Messer will be honored before Saturday's contest for their four-year careers in Carolina Blue.

The Tar Heels enter Thursday riding a 10-game winning streak, its longest of the season and longest since the 2008 squad won 12 straight from April 9-25.

Head Coach Mike Fox has posted a nearly flawless mark against the Hokies with a 17-1 mark since he took over the program in 1999.

The Tar Heels are 9-0 all-time against the Hokies in Chapel Hill.

National Rankings
Carolina moved up in nearly all of the polls this week after another 4-0 showing with a midweek win over UNC Wilmington and a weekend sweep of Duke.

The Tar Heels moved inside the top 10 in the Collegiate Baseball poll to No. 10 after moving up four spots this week.

UNC tops out at No. 6 in the Coaches Poll and is No. 7 in the NCBWA Poll.

Carolina checks in at No. 12 in the Baseball America poll.

In the seventh installment of the NCAA RPI the Tar Heels are No. 6 last week, while Virginia Tech checks in at No. 31.

The ACC has 10 programs in the top 40 of this week's RPI rankings.

Entering Thursday the Tar Heels are No. 5 in Warren Nolan's RPI and the Hokies are at No. 29.

The Boyd's World RPI pegs the Tar Heels No. 6 entering Thursday and has Virginia Tech at No. 31.

North Carolina-Virginia Tech Series
Carolina leads the all-time series against Virginia Tech with a 56-23-2 mark since the series began in 1907.

The Tar Heels swept the season series with the Hokies a year ago with wins of 10-4, 5-4 and 7-6 in Blacksburg.

Carolina has won 12 straight over Virginia Tech and have won 17 of 18 since the Hokies joined the ACC prior to the 2005 season.
