Miami: RBs Cierre Wood and George Atkinson III combined to rush for 243 yards and two touchdowns, leading the ninth-ranked Fighting Irish (5-0) past Miami (4-2) at Chicago's Soldier Field. Notre Dame is unbeaten through five games for the first time since 2002. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Miami, which was held to just 285 yards after piling up 1,260 yards and 86 points in its previous two games. PK Jake Wieclaw's 28-yard field goal in the first quarter accounted for the Hurricanes' scoring.

North Carolina: Carolina is coming off a dominating offensive performance in a 48-34 victory over Virginia Tech. The 48 points are the most ever scored against Virginia Tech in an ACC game. Tailback Giovani Bernard gained 262 rushing yards, the fifth-highest total in UNC history and the most ever against a Hokie defense. Bernard had a 62-yard touchdown run on fourth and inches and later added a 51-yard run to set up another touchdown. QB Bryn Renner ran for a TD and passed for another, while WR Sean Tapley scored on a pass reception and a 94-yard kickoff return. The Tar Heels held the Hokies to 264 yards through the first three quarters and 394 for the game.

Miami-North Carolina Series
Carolina and Miami are meeting for the 16th time overall and the ninth consecutive season. All three of Carolina's most recent wins in the series have been decided by 10 points or less, including a 33-27 victory in 2007, a 28-24 win in 2008 and a 33-24 win in 2009. The 2008 and 2009 wins were vacated. Carolina's first game against Miami as ACC members came in 2004 and was a memorable win for the Tar Heels. Connor Barth connected on a 42-yard field goal as time expired to beat the fourth-ranked Hurricanes, 31-28. It is still the highest-ranked team Carolina has ever beaten and is the Tar Heels' only win over a team ranked in the Associated Press top five.
