NORTH CAROLINA: The Tar Heels opened the season on Friday night with a 76-59 win over Gardner-Webb.

FAU: FAU opens its 2012-13 regular season with a matchup against the #11 North Carolina Tar Heels. The Owls beat crosstown rival Lynn 87-80 in an exhibition game on Monday night. Junior transfer Dragan Sekelja scored 21 points and 12 rebounds in his first game action since the 2010-11 season. Senior Jordan McCoy narrowly missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Today's game is the first for both teams in the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

FAU: FAU finished the 2010-11 season 29th in the nation in turnovers per game at 11.3 per game. Last season, the Owls averaged 12.2 turnovers a game.

FAU: In 1992-93 FAU's associate head coach Mike Jarvis II began his collegiate coaching career as a first-year assistant working with his father, Mike Jarvis, at George Washington. Jarvis has made 9 NCAA Tournament appearances and from 1992-00 his teams (GW & STJ) advanced to postseason play in each season. As a coach, Jarvis II has reached the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 four times. He was essential in the Red Storm's run into the NCAA Tournament's South Regional Final (Elite 8) in 1999. he Jarvises are one of only two African-American father-son coaching duos in Division I, the other is Tubby and Saul Smith at the University of Minnesota. With FAU's Sun Belt regular season title, the Jarvises have been together for postseason appearances at four different schools, including Jarvis II playing for his father at Boston University. his season is the 20th anniversary of the duo's initial season coaching together.

FAU: he Owls feature players from four foreign countries. Juniors Pablo Bertone, Justin Raffington, Dragan Sekelja come from Argentina, Germany and Croatia, respectively, while freshman Javier Lacunza hails from Spain.

FAU: Seniors Greg Gantt, Andre Mattison, and Jordan McCoy are 11 wins away from being the winningest senior class since FAU joined Division I. he trio has won 46 games since arriving on campus. FAU won 56 games from the 2004-05 to the 2007-08 seasons. he FAU program won 62 games in its first four years of existence. Head coach Mike Jarvis is three wins away from becoming FAU's winningest coach at the Division I level and 17 wins away from becoming the all-time winninest coach in FAU history.

UNC: James Michael McAdoo led the way for UNC in Friday night's win over Gardner-Webb. McAdoo finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds for the Tar Heels.

UNC: North Carolina's freshmen quartet of Marcus Paige, Joel James, Brice Johnson, and J.P. Tokoto combined for 24 points in their UNC debut, with all four of them scoring six points each. Johnson added five rebounds, James four, Paige three, and Tokoto two rebounds.

UNC: On Sunday, the Tar Heels will be looking to improve their free throw and perimeter shooting after a less than stellar performance against Gardner-Webb. UNC shot 1-for-12 from behind the arc and only 9-of-19 from the free throw strip.
