Last Game
ECU: East Carolina knocked down a school-record 18 3-pointers en route to a 111-59 victory over NAIA institution St. Andrews inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Tuesday night. The Pirates connected on 18-of-36 triples, outscoring the Knight behind the arc, 54-9. [Recap]

North Carolina: North Carolina took on an over-matched East Tennessee State University squad Saturday night to the woodshed. Not only was there a huge talent disparity but East Tennessee State only suited up eight players. The result was an overwhelming 78-55 rout of the Buccaneers by the Tar Heels. [Recap]

ECU-North Carolina Series
The Tar Heels lead the series with East Carolina, 2-0. Saturday's game will be the first meeting between UNC and the Pirates since March 18, 1993, when the Tar Heels beat ECU 85-65 in Winston-Salem, N.C., in the first round of the NCAA Tournament East Regional. Carolina went on to win head coach Dean Smith's second NCAA championship later that season in New Orleans. The only other meeting between the in-state schools came on Jan. 6, 1953, in Greenville, a 79-66 UNC win under head coach Frank McGuire. Roy Williams has never faced East Carolina prior to Saturday.

ECU-North Carolina Notes
ECU: The Pirates are coached by former Tar Heel guard Jeff Lebo, who played at Carolina from 1985-89 and remains one of the best shooters in Atlantic Coast Conference history.

ECU: Senior Maurice Kemp ranks fourth in Conference USA in scoring with 16.7 points per game. He scored double figures in each of the first four games before being limited to eight points in 21 minutes against St. Andrews. Kemp has led the Pirates in scoring five times this season.

ECU: Senior Shamarr Bowden leads Conference USA in assist-to-turnover ratio (5.8) and ranks sixth nationally. He has distributed 23 assists and committed just four turnovers this season.

ECU: Sophomore Paris Roberts-Campbell is the only player to score double figures in each of the last two games. He has made a 3-pointer in four consecutive games.

ECU: The Pirates have two players ranked among the top 10 in Conference USA in rebounding: Robert Sampson (8.9/6th) and Maurice Kemp (8.1/9th). Kemp and Sampson have each recorded three double-doubles this season.

UNC: Carolina has attempted 20 or more three-point field goals in six of its first nine games this season after doing so five times in 38 games last season. For comparison's sake, the Tar Heels attempted 15.2 threes per game last season (579 total). The Carolina record for most three-point attempts in season was 822 in 2002-03, an average of 23.5 attempts per game.

UNC: Saturday's game is part of a stretch of five home games in six outings in December to close out UNC's non-conference schedule for 2012-13.

UNC: After Saturday's game, Carolina will play at Texas next Wednesday night in its only road game in the month of December. UNC's lone road game between Nov. 27 and Jan. 6 is a Dec. 19 contest at Texas in Austin. Next up after the Texas game is McNeese State, which will visit the Smith Center on Saturday Dec. 22 at noon.

UNC: Next up on the court after the ETSU game will be East Carolina, which will visit the Smith Center on Saturday Dec. 15 at noon. Former Tar Heel guard Jeff Lebo is the ECU head coach and will be making his second return visit to the Smith Center to face UNC. Lebo's Tennessee Tech squad lost in the Smith Center during the 1999-2000 season.

Roy Williams on Saturday's Game

"It was really easy (scheduling ECU). Jeff (Lebo) called, and we talked about it, and I said okay. You do need some games where you get some confidence. You do need some games where you get challenged. It (playing ECU) is a different look."

"(Lebo had) tremendous savvy (as a former UNC player). Great ability to shoot the basketball. A guy that was really a combination guy. He had five three-pointers in a matter of minutes against Georgia Tech. And just a coach on the floor. A guy who could do a great job with kids in a camp situation, because that's what he had done with his dad. Nothing but really, really positive things."

"I think (Marcus Paige's) confidence is okay. I don't think he's playing the way he thought he'd play, but that happens a lot to freshmen. I said this the first day. I think he's going to be really good. I do think that the biggest adjustment or improvement I've felt is from freshman to sophomore year, especially at the point guard spot."

"I'd be happier if we were making more (three-pointers), but we knew that would be a strength because of experience."

"I want Brice (Johnson) and Joel (James) to come along faster. I would like to get to the foul line more, and that's from going inside."
