Beast of the Hill returns Friday

North Carolina's football program has been hosting the Beast of the Hill seven-on-seven event going back to the Butch Davis era, and Larry Fedora and his staff have carried on the tradition by welcoming back several more high school programs and prospects to campus for the 2013 edition, set for Friday on the UNC practice fields and inside Kenan Stadium.

Approximately a dozen high schools from throughout the Carolinas and Virginia will make their way to Chapel Hill for Friday's event, including two schools that feature North Carolina commitments---Alexandria (T.C.) Williams, who feature Malik Carney and Jeremiah Clarke, and Raleigh (N.C.) Ravenscroft, whose roster includes tight end Avery Edwards.

It will be interesting to see how Clarke, a big defensive lineman, fits into the 7-on-7 game if he even bothers playing at all on Friday, but this will be THI's first chance since the April Rivals Camp Series event in Richmond to evaluate Carney, a safety/linebacker prospect.

Former recruits who starred at the Beast of the Hill in past years who subsequently earned UNC offers and committed to the Tar Heels include Jordan Fieulleteau, Khris Francis, and Edwards, who landed an offer from Carolina not long after performing well in last year's event.

Edwards is exactly what UNC is looking for in terms of an athletic, playmaking tight end, and he'll be on center stage for Ravenscroft Friday as they look to make noise in this event.

The top 2015 prospects expected for the Beast of the Hill include top in-state wide receiver prospect Juval Mollette, who will be playing with his Randleman (N.C.) High squad, and Trai Sharp of Carrboro (N.C.) High, a running back/athlete.

Mollette, who has an early UNC offer, is going to be one of North Carolina's top prospects in the 2015 class, and has already established himself as the best wide receiver in the Tar Heel State in the rising junior class.

He had a strong showing in Chapel Hill last month at one of the one-day camps, where he worked extensively with UNC receivers coach Gunter Brewer.

Last year a collection of Virginia Tidewater gridiron stars including Taquan Mizzell, Quin Blanding and Jamil Kamara stole the show at the Beast of the Hill, though no such 'all star' type of team is scheduled for this year's event.

Listed below is the full list of participants for the 2013 Beast of the Hill 7-on-7 Tournament. As in past years, the finals of the event will be held in Kenan Stadium Friday afternoon.
