Knox, Ellerbe not on roster this spring
Brandon Ellerbe and tight end Terrance Knox---are not enrolled at UNC this semester, and will not participate in spring football with the Tar Heels.Tar Heel Illustrated has learned that two Tar Heel veterans---defensive back
And while there's a chance they could return to the team in August's training camp, as quarterback Marquise Williams did last year, right now neither Ellerbe or Knox will factor into the program's plans this spring.
Both Knox and Ellerbe were in-state, three-star prospects recruited to UNC by the Butch Davis regime---Ellerbe out of Anson County High School in Wadesboro in the Class of 2010, and Knox at Concord High School in the Class of 2012.
Knox wound up staying firm to the Tar Heels as a recruit even after Davis was fired, and ultimately Larry Fedora became head coach.
Ellerbe was a significant factor defensively for the Tar Heels in 2013, playing in all 13 games and recording 28 tackles, including five tackles and 1.5 sacks in the Belk Bowl triumph over Cincinnati.
Knox hasn't yet made a significant impact for North Carolina on the gridiron. He enrolled in the spring of 2012 but redshirted the 2012 season, and didn't make a catch or see significant playing action in 2013.
UNC has enrolled Brandon Fritts this spring at the tight end position, as well as Avery Edwards, who will enroll this summer.
