McCarron to visit Alabama, three others

SAN ANTONIO - While most of the participants of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl looked somewhat nervous while going through the registration process on Sunday, quarterback AJ McCarron was busy cracking jokes with several of his West teammates.

"I know a bunch of the guys here," McCarron smiled. "I know Chris Davenport, Dre Kirkpatrick and all the guys from Alabama. All the guys from the southeast I basically know a lot of them. I just kid around with them."

The Mobile, Alabama native said that being from the Yellowhammer state definitely had a huge impact on making his verbal commitment to Alabama.

"I made that decision late in the summer. I felt like it was the right thing, being from the state of Alabama."

His relationship with Nick Saban has also played a big role along with a few other reasons.

"My relationship with Coach Saban is pretty special. Also the doors that the University of Alabama opens for you after football is a huge deal. You don't really have to go looking at jobs, jobs come to you."

Even though McCarron sounds like he's solid with the Tide, the four-star prospect is excited about using several of his other official visits.

"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. Very few kids get to go through this whole experience. Basically I'm just trying to have fun and just see everything."

Along with a January 16 visit to Alabama, the No.5-ranked pro-style quarterback in the country plans on visiting Ole Miss on the 8th, Miami on the 31st and he'll try to squeeze in a stop to Oklahoma somewhere between all that.

Though the long visit list could appear as a threat to the Alabama program, McCarron doesn't leave much of a chance for him making a commitment switch.

"Not unless coach Saban just ups and gets fired."
