Calvin Carroll loved his visit to UNC. He loved it so much he proudly parades his photo donning a Tar Heels jersey that all prospects that visit have taken.
His visit from for Junior Day on April 2, and the positive impression of that weekend in Chapel Hill remains with Carroll.
He doesn’t have an offer from Carolina, yet, but he is hoping. And at 6-1 and 280 pounds, the 2018 defensive tackle from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Carroll certainly has the specs to eventually begin racking up some offers.
West Virginia has been in regular contact, and Carroll has also recently visited Virginia, Rutgers and Penn State. As for his visit to UNC, it couldn’t have gone much better.
“It was great,” he said. “Coaches are great, I loved every bit of it.”
Carroll was impressed with so many aspects of the UNC program but one thing that stood out have become a common theme from prospects that visit Larry Fedora’s program.
“I liked their energy,” Carroll said. “I also liked what they are doing with the program.”
But there’s more. He had a chance to experience some current defensive linemen from the Tar Heels and see how they work. That was awfully appealing.
“Their defensive line are dogs, and that is what I am looking for,” Carroll said.
Carroll, who plans on returning to UNC, but isn’t sure yet when he will, knows how important this fall will be for him. To begin proving to Power 5 programs he can play at that level, he must turn in a huge season this fall. He knows it and is intent on doing just that.
“I am a hard working player that will do anything help the team,” he said. “And I have to continue to work hard and stay humble.”
