Jared Bartlett, a 3-star class of 2019 linebacker from Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, GA, recently picked up a surprise offer from North Carolina.

"I received my offer from UNC linebackers coach Mike Ekeler," he told THI. "I had no idea it was coming, just one day they came and gave it to me."

Bartlett (6-2, 210 pounds) has yet to make his way to Chapel Hill, but with an offer in hand he is looking forward to checking out the campus.

"I'm most definitely taking a visit during the summer," he said. "I'm a student before an athlete so I would explore the main campus and see what my learning environment would be like. After that, probably see the athletic facilities."

So what does Bartlett like so far about the Tar Heels?

“I know them as a football program but not that much as an overall school,” he said. “I like the way North Carolina executes things and the staff sees me as a linebacker. I didn't start researching UNC until after they offered me."

As things currently stand, Bartlett is taking his time in regard to his recruitment, but he has an idea of what he wants in a potential college destination.

"I want to find out whether or not I feel comfortable at the university," he said. "A place where I would be able to excel in both academics and athletics."

Other than Carolina, Bartlett has gained offers from Alabama, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Maryland and Purdue among others, with interest from Ohio State, Georgia and Clemson.
