Central Gwinnett defensive back Donte Burton had been committed to North Carolina since July of 2016. Since his commitment, the 5-foot-11, 173 pound corner has seen his process take off with offers from all over the country.

On Wednesday afternoon, Burton made the call to Tar Heels head coach Larry Fedora to indicate he will be opening his process back up.

“He just talked to Fedora and decommitted. He called the coach personally and basically told him with the coaching changes he wanted to open his process back up and see what is out there,” Burton’s father Dexter said.

“North Carolina does not have the type of engineering major he is wanting to do so he just wanted to open it up and see some new schools and figure out exactly what he wants to do.”

Although he is opening his process back up, the Tar Heels remain serious contenders moving forward. Five other schools have sparked the interest of Burton, but he remains open to other offers and has no top group necessarily.

“Right now he is looking at Missouri, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Oregon,” Dexter Burton replied. “He still has North Carolina at the top of the list as well, and he told the coach that. He just wants to go to the schools with an open mind and find out where is best for him. He is open to all schools moving forward.”

The Central Gwinnett standout has no timeframe moving forward on a college decision.
