Brooks Langley had quite a few options to play football in college, but in the end, the Atlanta native chose to walk on with North Carolina.

Langley could have accepted scholarship offers from a host of Division II and II schools, and he could have accepted an opportunity to walk on at either Georgia or Virginia, but he decided UNC was the best place for him.

“I let Coach (Gunter) Brewer know on Monday night,” Langley told THI. “And he was excited for me to join the Tar Heel family and is looking forward to developing my game with me.”

UNC has an outstanding track record of developing walk-ons, which wasn’t lost on Langley.

“It was a big factor,” he said. “Hearing and reading about Mack Hollins, who developed from a walk on to a dynamic receiver, was encouraging for me and let me know that Coach Fedora, Coach Brewer and the rest of the staff are some of the best in the business at developing players.”

Langley had 364 yards receiving with 4 touchdowns this past season in a run-heavy offense at Mount Vernon Presbyterian. Also an accomplished basketball and baseball player in high school, Langley had some opportunities with those sports, but football is his best sport.

“I had some D2 and D3 schools interested in both baseball and basketball, but when I picked up football it quickly became my best sport,” he said.

More than football, UNC’s academic status was also a factor in Langley’s thinking. Plus, it doesn’t hurt he’s been a Tar Heels’ fans since birth. His father is UNC class of 1988.

“The quality of education at UNC is second to none and that was a big reason for my decision, he said. “My dad also went to UNC so I've spent the last 18 years of my life cheering for Carolina.”

In the summer, Langley will be a part of Carolina.
