North Carolina has offered 3-star 2017 forward Isaiah Stokes, sources have confirmed to THI.

Stokes is a 6-8, 250-pound forward from Lusanne Collegiate School in Memphis, TN. Stokes has also been offered by Tennessee and Florida.

The offer comes as a bit of a surprise, but with big bangers needed in 2017-18, it makes some sense.

Stokes was a high-profile football prospect as an offensive lineman with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and many other big-time programs. But he decided to drop football and concentrate on basketball, which means he could end up with a higher ranking after devoting full time to hoops.

THI basketball recruiting analyst has seen Stokes play and offers his take.

As the busy recruiting period begins, North Carolina head coach Roy Williams has extended another scholarship offer to a 2017 post player. Memphis native Isaiah Stokes is the latest to receive an offer from the UNC staff.

Stokes, the younger brother of former Tennessee player Jarnell Stokes, is a physically imposing prospect at 6-8, 250-lbs. Stokes spent part of his summer playing alongside another top target for UNC in PJ Washington. Although a bit short to play the center position, Stokes makes up for it with his brute strength and body control in the paint.

Stay tuned to THI for more developments on Isaiah Stokes.
