Melbourne, FL, wide receiver James Blackstrain recently picked up an offer from North Carolina.

The 6-2, 165-pound class of 2021 prospect who attends Holy Trinity Academy says the Tar Heels are “one of the schools at the top of my list right now.”

Blackstrain has received offers from Tennessee, Baylor, Louisville and Kentucky among others after a strong freshman campaign. The electrifying receiver recorded 27 catches for 555 yards and 7 touchdowns. A two-way threat, he also collected 33 tackles, 2 pass deflections and one interception at defensive back.

Despite his impressive play last season, Blackstrain isn’t content and hungry for more.

“I plan on being better than I was last year,” he told THI. “There is always room to improve and get better. I plan on leading and helping my team make the playoffs this year.”

As the recruiting process continues to pick up, Blackstrain is taking his time scheduling visits. After all, he has plenty of time to fully dive into the process.

“I haven’t been to UNC yet, but I plan on visiting during the summer,” he said. “I plan on visiting every school that extended offers to me.”

Here is some more of what Blackstrain had to say during our interview:

Which Coach offered you and what was said?

“Coach Chad Scott had reached out and extended the offer to me. He told me that even though he is starting the process early he wants me to keep working and dominate every time I step on the field.”

Did he tell you what the staff liked about you as a player? Any particular qualities you have?

“He loves my frame because as a young 2021 guy. I have a tremendous wingspan and I’m still getting taller, faster, and stronger. He also likes how I stick out on the field and I make plays because I’m a playmaker. Also as a young guy I make some great grabs. I would love to bring that same effect to the college level soon.”

You said that you plan on visiting UNC during the summer, what do you hope to take away from your upcoming trip?

“I would love to make some relationships with the coaches and just grab a feel of the environment up there in Chapel Hill.”

Will you be camping there also?

“I don’t know about all of that yet, but I plan on coming to Chapel Hill and visiting the coaching staff and meeting the players for sure.”

Lastly, where does North Carolina stand amongst your other offers?

“They are one of the schools that are at the top of my list right now.”
