Shea McKeen is new to the major Division I-A recruiting scene. In fact, he didn’t start hearing from the major programs until about a month ago. This weekend, the 6-foot-6, 270-pound tight end prospect from The Hun School in Princeton, N.J., made his first official visit.

His destination -- North Carolina.
His first visit and trip to Chapel Hill was not only a good one, it was a great one. So great in fact, it left a huge impression on him.
“It went really well,” McKeen said. “It was a lot of fun. It was hard not to commit. UNC is definitely No. 1 right now.”
McKeen would go on to say that the school, team and everything about the area was much better than he ever expected.
He had the opportunity to hang out with all of the tight ends as well as sophomore linebacker Joe Kedra, a N.J. native, who served as his host for the weekend.
“All of those guys seemed really cool, just all-around good guys,” he said.
McKeen said that he had a great opportunity to see how things would really be there. He noted how he learned a lot from watching the practices and how he was impressed by the way (head) coach (John) Bunting handled things.
When it is all said and done, the school that can offer McKeen the most playing time early on will be the one to win his services. Right now, UNC seems to be in the driver’s seat in that respect.
“The opportunity to play as soon as I come in is really the most attractive thing for me,” he said. “They told me they only had one tight end on scholarship and that the playing time will be there.”
With things looking up for the Tar Heels, McKeen did say the only reason he didn’t commit was because he has not seen any of the other schools yet.
“It is an awesome college town, the people are cool and there is always something to do,” he said. “All I can say is I liked it a lot.”
