Wayne (NJ) DePaul Catholic class of 2019 wide receiver Ronnie Hickman made a visit to Chapel Hill last month following one of his biggest offers to date.

"The visit was great," Hickman told THI. "My family and I have always liked UNC, so getting an offer from them was great. They offered me after they saw me doing some field work, so I was not surprised by it, I was definitely excited."

The 6-1, 200-pound athlete took in this opportunity alongside his family and teammate (Taquan Robertson) who also holds an offer, to get a closer look inside the program.

UNC linebackers coach Mike Ekeler is heading the early stages of his recruitment, with Tar Heels wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer splitting duties.

"My relationship with Coach Ekeler is going well, and I really like Coach Brewer," Hickman said.

Hickman toured the campus and got a feel for the atmosphere while getting feedback on his on his game from the coaching staff.

"I pretty much saw the whole campus, from the business program, to the weight room," Hickman said. "The coaches basically said they could use me in their offense and (how) they run. It would be a great fit for me."

What kind of wide receiver is Hickman?

"I would say I like playing on the outside, just because I've been slotted out there all my life, but if the coach needed me to line up inside, then it's fine with me," he said.

Despite his recent good time at UNC, Hickman is unsure of how things currently stand with the Heels, he wants to hear from them more.

"There hasn't been any recent contact," he said. "I would love to hear back from them, and most definitely would get back for a game this fall."

Outside of his recent trip to Chapel Hill, Hickman is looking to check out Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State, and possibly Michigan in the near future. He has offers from those three schools as well as Penn State, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Pittsburgh, among others.

That said, Hickman told Rivals.com in May his top two schools have been Penn State and Ohio State for a while, but UNC could enter the mix if the relationship with the staff grows more.
