Premium 2020 Athlete Keeping An Eye On The Heels
Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, LSU and Georgia are just a few of the programs in pursuit of elite 2020 athlete Mike Robertson.
A couple of weeks ago, North Carolina joined the flurry and extended an offer to the Savannah (GA) Christian School prospect.
Robertson (6-0, 175) has garnered so much attention already from notable schools from around the country because he’s regarded an elite athlete, and everyone wants as many as they can get. He plays everywhere: Offense, defense, special teams, and multiple positions on each side of the ball, too.
"I play everywhere, from WR to FS, to running back, to outside linebacker," he told THI. "I don't prefer a specific role. I just want to ball."
The Tar Heels first appeared on his radar last year when they hosted Robertson for an afternoon t one of their day summer camps. Former Tar Heel assistant Charlton Warren, who is now at Tennessee, worked him out on defense, that's when he got a glimpse for how things are done at UNC.
"They are solid defensively there, and when I was there coach Warren worked me out at corner," he said.
Right now, the contact person for Carolina in regards to Robertson is UNC Director of Player Personnel Rory Pommerening.
Even though it's early in his recruitment, Robertson already has a feel for what the Heels are about, therefore he’s eager to get back to campus to learn even more about the school.
"I like there program, they like to put the ball in their best players hands," Robertson said. "I'm not going to take no offer for granted, if someone offers I'm going to try and make my way there."
Robertson has his calendar already marked for September 2 when will have a front row seat for the season-opener for North Carolina with California at Kenan Stadium. His presence there will come with a twist, though.
"My uncle (Demetris Robertson) is a wide receiver for Cal, and they play them the first game of the season, so I'm going to be at that one," he said.
Also, while Robertson is in town, he is going to take advantage of the opportunity that is presented ahead of him, and learn more about the academic programs UNC has to offer.
"The science building, was the one thing I wanted to see the last time I was there, but didn't get a chance too," he said.
Next year as a rising sophomore, Robertson is ready to get back to work, and set some goals.
"I want to just learn the game, be able to recognize coverages on both sides of the ball, and be able to break down film better," he said. "As for the team, trying to help my team win a state title. This is a smart group, and I want to learn from them. "
