UNC-Maryland Postgame Notes

---North Carolina finished the season 8-4 and 5-3 in the ACC. The 8-4 mark gives UNC its best winning percentage (.667) in a season since 1997 (11-1, .917) and the five ACC wins are the most since 2004 (5-3).
---The Tar Heels won eight games in Larry Fedora's first season as UNC's head coach. That ties the mark for most wins by a UNC coach in his first season. Raymond 'Bear' Wolf won eight in 1936 and John Bunting won eight in 2001.

---Carolina went 6-1 at Kenan Stadium this season. The Tar Heels have won 12 home games in the last two years, more than any two-year span in school history (previous 11 in 1993-94).
---Carolina scored 40 or more points five times this year and 30 or more nine times. The Tar Heels finished the season with 487 points, the most in school history. The previous mark was 421 in 1993.
---Carolina averaged 40.6 points a game this year, also the most in school history. The previous UNC record was 35.1 in 1993.
---The average score in Carolina's four ACC home games this year was 46.5 points for UNC and 43.8 points for the opponents. The Tar Heels scored 186 combined points against Virginia Tech, NC State, Georgia Tech and Maryland. Those four opponents combined for 175 points.
---The Tar Heels scored 341 points at Kenan Stadium this year in seven games, an average of 48.7 per game.
---Carolina finished the year with 5,817 yards of total offense, a school record (previous was 5,256 in 1993). The Tar Heels averaged 484.4 yards, breaking the previous school record of 441.8 in 1983.
---The 45 points Saturday are the most by Carolina against Maryland since 1993 (59) and the 83 combined points are the most in the UNC-Maryland series since the 1993 game that the Tar Heels won, 59-42.
---Carolina set a school record for most passing yards in a season with 3,501 yards. The previous mark was 3,432 in 2010. The Tar Heels averaged 291.8 passing yards per game, most in UNC history. The previous record was 266.6 in 2002.
---QB Bryn Renner finished 28 for 39 for 305 yards and five touchdowns. He tied the single-game UNC record for touchdown passes, a record he already shared with Darian Durant (at Arizona State, 2002) and Kevin Anthony (vs. Wake Forest, 1985). Renner also threw for five scores earlier this year at Louisville.
---Renner established a single-season UNC record with 28 touchdown passes, surpassing his previous mark of 26 in 2011. Chris Keldorf (23 in 1996) is the only other Tar Heel quarterback to throw for at least 20 touchdowns in a season.
---Renner threw for 300-plus yards for the fourth consecutive game. He has thrown for at least 300 yards eight times in his career, a school record. The previous record was six by T.J. Yates.
---Renner broke the school record for passing yards in four consecutive games over the last four contests. He threw for 1,328 combined yards against NC State, Georgia Tech, Virginia and Maryland, breaking the previous mark of 1,311 by T.J. Yates in 2010.
---Renner finishes his junior season with 276 completions in 422 attempts for 3,356 yards, 28 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He completed 65.4 percent of his passes and posted a passer rating of 150.78. He finished the year second in single-season UNC history in completions and yards in one game fewer than T.J. Yates, who set both marks in 13 games in 2010.
---Renner set the UNC single-season record for total offense with 3,394 yards in 12 games. The previous mark was 3,341 by T.J. Yates in 2010. He averaged 282.8 total offense yards per game.
---Renner ranks third in school history in career yards (6,141), career touchdowns (54) and career completions (516).
---TB Giovani Bernard had 27 rushing attempts for 163 yards and a touchdown. He rushed for 1,228 yards in just 10 games this year, the seventh-most by a Tar Heel in a season. He gained 1,981 all-purpose yards, the second-most in a season in school history behind Don McCauley's 2,021 in 1970. Bernard set a school record for the highest average all-purpose yards in a season with 198.1 per game. McCauley averaged 183.7 in 1970.
---Bernard is now 10th in UNC history in rushing yards with 2,481 in 23 games. He passed Ronnie McGill (2,393) today for the 10th spot.
---Bernard gained 163 yards today, his fifth 100-yard rushing day of the season and the 12th of his career.
---Bernard scored one touchdown against Maryland, his 19th in 10 games in 2012 and his 33rd in 23 career games. This season Bernard scored 12 rushing, five receiving and two TDs by punt returns. The 19 touchdowns are the second-most in single-season UNC history, two shy of Don McCauley's single-season record of 21 set in 1970.
---Bernard scored 114 points in 2012, the second-most in UNC single-season history. Don McCauley (126 in 1970), Mike Voight (110 in 1976), Kelvin Bryant (108 in 1981) and Leon Johnson (100 in 1993) are the only other Tar Heels with 100 points in a season.
---Freshman wide receiver Quinshad Davis had nine catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns today against the Terrapins. Over the last two games, Davis had 25 receptions for 313 yards (the school record for catches in consecutive games is 26).
---Davis extended his school records for receptions and receiving yards by a freshman, finishing the season with 61 catches for 776 yards and five touchdowns. The 61 catches are eighth-most in UNC single-season.
---The 61 receptions and 776 yards by Davis rank second in ACC single-season history by a freshman.
---TB A.J. Blue caught his first career touchdown pass on a 12-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter. He also had nine rushing touchdowns this season.
---With two touchdowns Saturday, Bernard and Blue combined for 29 total touchdowns in 2012, establishing a UNC record for single-season touchdowns by two players. Curtis Johnson (16) and Leon Johnson (12) set the previous record of 28 in 1993.
---Carolina had 28 rushing touchdowns in 12 games, the most in one season since rushing for 39 in 1993.
---WR Erik Highsmith had two catches for 27 yards today and finishes his career with 166 receptions, third most in school history (he passed Na Brown today to move into third place).
---TE Eric Ebron had three catches today and finished the season with 40, the most by a UNC tight end in one year.
---OG Jonathan Cooper, a finalist for the Outland Trophy, started his 47th and final career game Saturday, most among active offensive linemen in the ACC.
---Carolina came into the game ranked fourth in the nation in tackles for losses per game at 8.1 and registered eight TFLs today. LB Kevin Reddick led UNC this season with 18.5 tackles for losses (ninth-most in UNC single-season history. Reddick finished his career with 36 tackles for losses, the sixth-most in school history.
---The Tar Heels allowed just 11 quarterback sacks on 452 passing plays this season. UNC came into the game ranked 14th in the country in fewest sacks allowed and did not give up a sack against the Terps.
