After a drought of almost two months, Tar Heel fans can now celebrate a new commitment. Three-star JUCO defensive back / kick returner Jeremy HartsfieldClick Recruiting Board UpdatedClick Here to view this Link. Here to view this Link. of Pasadena, CA confirmed with Carolina Blue that he has made a verbal commitment to the Tar Heels.
"Yes, I committed. I told Coach Bunting that I wanted to play there," said Hartsfield. "I like the exposure that UNC brings and I like that their academics are at such a high level." "I am also a big fan of L.T. and Dre Bly." (Hartsfield says he plays a lot like Bly.)
Pasadena City College tight ends and special teams coach Paredez confirmed the commitment. "Yes, Jeremy has made a verbal commitment to North Carolina, but he has not signed yet," said Paredez.
"UNC offered him when he 'tripped' (official visit) up there a few weeks ago" said Paredez. Paredez coaches Hartsfield on special teams, as Hartsfield serves as a kick returner. Hartsfield was the California state leader in kickoff returns last year.
Paredez also noted: "UNC will be getting an all-around great athlete and a phenomenal football player. If you want him to do something for the team he will do it."
Hartsfield himself said that he would have 3 years to play 2. He will have to take and pass certain classes next spring before he can enroll at UNC in the fall.
Hartsfield is listed as a soft commit for now because he is still taking official visits. He officially visited Temple last week, and he has plans to visit West Virginia, Arizona State, and UNLV. Hartsfield claims offers from each of these schools.
Despite still looking around, Hartsfield said he would most likely keep his commitment to North Carolina. "I'm just looking around some more, but I want to be at UNC."
